Help with your TaxAible account and filing workspace

Complete FAQ reference

Published by TaxAible. Updated 8 October 2026. These answers explain our service and preparation checks; use the relevant official sources for legal decisions. Read our Privacy Policy and filing guide for more detail.

How accurate are the tax calculations?

TaxAible uses tax-year-specific calculations with the income, deductions and other facts entered in your return. An incomplete or misclassified entry can change the result.

Confirm the tax year, compare income and deducted tax with certificates, and review the official IRIS draft before submission. Automated calculations are not a guarantee of legal compliance or an audit outcome.

For preparation checks and a worked example, read the filing guide.

Is my financial data secure?

TaxAible processes and saves account and return data on our servers so you can resume your work. Some interface preferences may also be stored in your browser. Closing the app or clearing browser storage does not delete saved account records.

Uploaded documents and chat information may be processed by service providers described in our Privacy Policy. That policy explains processing, retention and your options; it does not promise that all data stays on your device.

Use the support page for account or data requests. Do not include your password in a support message.

What happens if I make a mistake in my input?

You can easily correct mistakes at any time by talking or typing.

Simply say or type:

  • "Change my salary to 2 million"
  • "Update my medical expenses to 50,000"

TaxAible will immediately update the specific field without resetting the rest of your form.

Does it handle the 116 Wealth Statement?

Yes. TaxAible makes completing your Section 116 Wealth Statement simple and stress-free.

The system helps you:

  • Declare and organize your properties, bank accounts, and vehicles.
  • Track your annual personal expenses.
  • Auto-Reconcile: Automatically check if your declared assets match your income, highlighting any discrepancies before you file.
How does TaxAible file my return on the FBR IRIS portal?

The IRIS extension helps transfer your reviewed draft to the official portal. Check the portal's figures and complete any required sign-in, CAPTCHA and submission steps.

If your plan offers filing assistance, follow the handoff instructions and the status shown for your request. This FAQ does not promise a fixed completion time.

Draft transfer is not final submission. Check the applicable forms in IRIS Completed Task and save the submitted copies. See the filing guide for the complete checklist.

What does the TaxAible IRIS Extension do?

The TaxAible IRIS Extension makes the filing process seamless through two key functions:

  • Import FBR History: Pulls your FBR history (such as withholding taxes and registered assets) directly into TaxAible to save you manual typing.
  • Export Drafts: Transfers your completed tax draft to auto-fill the official FBR portal instantly.
How does the Two-Way Data Import work?

The IRIS Connector allows you to retrieve data directly from FBR data and your prior IRIS filings.

The extension operates as follows:

  • Scans and Captures: It navigates to FBR data pages and captures visible transaction tables or rows.
  • Filters by Period: It automatically filters data to match your selected tax year (e.g. July 1 through June 30).
  • Aggregates Tax Withheld: Flat row data, such as monthly withholding tax entries, is summed up automatically.
  • Syncs to TaxAible: The aggregated data is mapped into your active return, eliminating manual transcription.
How does the AI Chatbot integration work with the extension?

You can connect the extension directly with the TaxAible AI Advisor.

This integration enables:

  • Interactive Filing: The chatbot can communicate with your active extension session to guide you page-by-page.
  • Status Checking: Ask the chatbot to verify the connection status or detect what forms are currently loaded in the portal.
  • Streamlined Workflow: Conversational instructions translate directly into actions on your browser tab.
What is Smart Page Probing?

Smart Page Probing is a secure, read-only scanning feature for your active IRIS portal page.

Key highlights include:

  • Context Awareness: The AI chatbot detects the specific section and visible fields you are viewing.
  • Step-by-Step Guidance: It guides you on what information is needed next and which boxes to check.
  • Read scope: Portal inspection is used to support the requested workflow. Check which taxpayer and form are open before starting an import or filing action.
Can I retrieve and compare information from my prior returns?

Yes. The Information Retrieval feature allows you to query your historical tax returns directly via the chatbot.

You can ask natural questions such as:

  • "Compare my 2021 and 2023 assets"
  • "Check my salary in my 2019 return"

The connector securely retrieves the data from prior IRIS returns and presents clear, structured side-by-side comparison tables.

What is Section 7E, and is it still active?

Section 7E concerns deemed income from immovable property. Its applicability can involve the relevant tax year, statutory changes and court proceedings.

This general FAQ does not establish the current legal status of a provision or dispose of an individual notice. Check current official legislation and any applicable court order, or obtain professional advice for your case before deciding how to respond.

Can TaxAible help if I receive an FBR audit notice?

Yes. If you receive an FBR notice (under Section 122, 111, etc.), you can upload it directly to TaxAible.

The Notice Assistant will:

  • Review the notice for common procedural flaws (like incorrect jurisdiction or unauthorized signatures).
  • Audit the notice against double-addition errors.
  • Draft a formal, legally grounded response for you to submit to the FBR.
How does the Auto-Reconciler work?

The Auto-Reconciler compares your recorded inflows, outflows and change in net assets, and highlights inconsistencies for you to investigate.

Check each suggestion against supporting records before applying it. A zero difference does not prove the entries are true or that the return is legally correct. See the worked reconciliation example.

What is the Tax Health Score?

The Tax Health Score summarizes checks on your draft. It is not an FBR rating, a probability of audit or a guarantee that the return is correct.

It reviews your return for:

  • Common filing red flags.
  • Unusual expense-to-income ratios.
  • Consistency across your tax history.

This gives you peace of mind and allows you to address warnings before you finalize your return.

How do Accountant / Pro plans work?

Available features, filing assistance and client limits depend on your selected plan. Check the current plans page and your account entitlement before purchasing or starting a filing workflow.

Accountant workspaces help organize separate client returns. Confirm the selected client before importing data or transferring a draft to IRIS.

Does the system support auto-save?

The filing workspace saves supported edits to your account. Check the save status and resolve any connection error before leaving the page.

Reopen the return to confirm important changes were saved. Browser closure is not a request to delete the saved return; see our Privacy Policy.

Why does my FBR notice response mention DCIR authority?

Officer authority depends on the action, relevant provision and any applicable delegation. A title alone does not establish whether a notice is valid.

Keep the complete notice and verify the section, year, officer details, deadline and supporting authority. Treat any AI analysis as a draft to review; do not ignore a notice solely because a tool raised a concern.

How does the system calculate multi-year projections?

Prior returns can help you compare recorded income, expenses and assets. A future projection needs explicit assumptions about future receipts, spending and the rules for that future year.

Historical figures do not guarantee future earnings or tax. Review the assumptions behind any estimate and keep it separate from the actual figures on a filed return.

Can I declare multiple vehicles or bank accounts?

Yes. You can add as many individual vehicles, bank accounts, or properties as you own.

TaxAible will organize and sum them up automatically into the correct FBR tax schedules for your final return.

Why does my wealth statement show an "unreconciled amount" error, and how do I fix it?

An unreconciled amount occurs when the FBR's wealth math does not balance perfectly to zero.

The FBR checks this basic reconciliation formula:

Unreconciled Amount = Total Outflows (Net Assets Increase + Personal Expenses) - Total Inflows (Income, Remittances, Gifts)

If there is even a 1 PKR difference, the equation is unbalanced.

Common reasons:

  • You forgot to list personal living expenses (rent, utilities, travel).
  • You had cash inflows (e.g., bank profit, inheritance) that you did not log as income.
  • You bought a new asset (like a car or property) but did not adjust your cash/bank balance to show where the purchase funds came from.

How to investigate: Compare opening and closing balances with your records, check outstanding liabilities, and look for missing or duplicated receipts and expenses. Use the Auto-Reconciler to highlight differences, but change a cash balance or expense only when evidence supports the correction. Read the worked reconciliation example.

I already pay tax on my salary. Why did I get charged tax on bank transfers or mobile load, and can I get it back?

A deduction certificate records tax withheld, but does not by itself establish whether that tax is adjustable, final, minimum or refundable for your circumstances and tax year.

How to check your records:

  • Collect tax deduction certificates from your telecom operator (you can download this from their app) and your bank.
  • Compare certificates with the withholding records available through IRIS. Resolve missing or mismatched figures instead of assuming every deduction is present.
  • Record each deduction once under the applicable treatment for the year. Verify eligibility before claiming a credit or refund; a deduction alone is not a refund guarantee.
How do I declare freelance income or foreign remittances safely to avoid FBR audits?

Money arriving from abroad can represent different things: service earnings, a transfer of your own savings, a gift or a loan. The banking route alone does not determine whether a receipt is taxable or exempt.

Keep invoices or contracts for earnings, bank statements, remittance certificates and evidence explaining the source. Record deducted tax separately. Classification and any special treatment depend on your facts, the relevant year and the applicable law.

Do not mark all overseas receipts as exempt or select a rate from a generic FAQ. Resolve the treatment using current official sources or professional advice before filing.

What should I do if my tax return is filed late? How do I get back on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL)?

Start with the official deadline and any extension for your taxpayer type and tax year. Complete the outstanding return and applicable wealth statement, and check FBR's current instructions for late filing and ATL status.

If a surcharge or other payment is required, verify the applicable amount and payment category with FBR before paying. Keep the payment receipt and check your status using the official ATL service. This FAQ does not guarantee an update within a fixed time or that late filing has no other consequences.

My employer deducts tax from my salary every month, but TaxAible says I still owe tax. Why?

It is common to see a difference between the tax deducted on your monthly payslips and your final tax calculation. This usually happens due to the following reasons:

  • Multiple Income Sources: Other income can affect the return, but it may have a separate tax treatment. Verify its classification rather than assuming it uses salary slabs.
  • Bonuses and Allowances: Some allowances or one-off bonuses are taxed differently or might push your annual income into a higher progressive slab that your monthly payroll deduction did not fully account for.
  • Mid-Year Job Changes: If you switched employers mid-year, both employers may have calculated your tax bracket separately (assuming you earned less overall at each), resulting under-deducted tax for the full fiscal year.

Request an annual salary and tax deduction certificate from each employer. Compare gross salary, withheld tax and the selected year with your draft, then investigate the difference before filing.
